Hello, Scratch Cat!
Find your way around Scratch and make the cat say hello.
Hello, Scratch Cat! 🐱
Scratch is a free coding tool made for kids. Instead of typing, you snap blocks together, like LEGO®!
What you see in Scratch
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| 🎭 Stage | where your story or game plays |
| 🐱 Sprite | a character, like the cat |
| 🧩 Blocks | the instructions, sorted by color |
| 📋 Code area | where you snap blocks together |
| 🟢 Green flag | the START button |
Your first script
A script is blocks snapped together. This one makes the cat talk:
when flag clicked say [Hello! I'm Scratch Cat!] for (2) seconds
- The yellow when flag clicked block is the starter. It has a round top, like a hat! 🎩
- The purple say block makes the sprite talk.
💡🧠 Blocks with the same color live in the same group. Yellow = Events, purple = Looks.
🛠️ Build it!
- Open Scratch (button below).
- Click Events (yellow) and drag out when flag clicked.
- Click Looks (purple) and snap say Hello! for 2 seconds underneath.
- Change the words to anything you like!
- Click the 🟢 green flag.
⭐ Bonus: add a second say block so the cat says two things.
